Bridgeport resident Joao Maiolino was riding his 2009 Harley-Davidson northbound near exit 59 shortly before 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, police said. While driving, Kimberly Ann Slosek, 41, was traveling in the opposite direction when she used the emergency turnaround in the central median of the highway.
State Police said that as Slosek used the turnaround, she entered the northbound lanes, striking Maiolino’s motorcycle.
Police said that Maiolino suffered “serious injuries,” while Slosek refused medical attention at the scene of the crash, which left the northbound lanes closed between exit 59 and exit 60 for several hours.
Maiolino was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital after being treated at the scene by paramedics. The accident remains under investigation.
Anyone with information regarding the crash, or who may have witnessed it, has been asked to contact Connecticut State Police Trooper Eileen Perchinski at Troop I in Bethany by calling (203) 393-4200.
